Aşk Şarkıları

Image

The Modern Lovers

Image
Here is a seminal proto-punk/rock band from Boston, that links Velvet Underground and Krautrock to Punk and Talking heads. I am not sure if it is unlucky that they did not do a second album or it is a blessing that their only album remains a gem, unspoilt by commercial pressures.

My Teenage Kicks

Image
The legendary radio producer, record collector and promoter of modern music John Peel loved Northern Irish Punk Band Undertones anthem-of-a-song Teenage Kicks (link to the video: http://youtu.be/wAtUw6lxcis ) so much that he had it inscribed on his tombstone. I really do not know or care if I want a tombstone, but if I do, this song should be on it: Seriously, there is hardly any other song that fills my veins with so much pure elan.

Best Wake-Up Song Ever

I used to wake up with Nothing But Flowers by Talking Heads back in the states. I found a new favorite wake up song. Iggy Pop's Lust For Life. I've been listening to Iggy Pop lately, and am amazed by the depth of his seemingly basic lyrics. A social critique is hard to miss in his songs. This is not surprising, considering he may well be the only Rock'n'Roll artist to have published in a scholars magazine about Roman History. The piece is short , yet entertaining.

Guns of Besiktas

Image
The Turkish Police celebrated its 164. anniversary by bombing 1000s of Besiktas supporters who were marching to the stadium with tear gas and using high pressure water guns. The Guns of Besiktas were victorious in the end made it to the stadium, after humiliating the cops as shown above. As if it were a comedy show, the police wanted to do a pre-game ceremony to the same people they had gased and shot with uniforms in the field, which -obviously- was cut short after fierce protests. Reminds me again, of the bizarre and tragicomic feeling of security the police supposedly established in the society. Always ask this question, like The Clash did: When they kick out your front door, How you gonna come? With your hands on your head, Or on the trigger of your gun?

Best Football Song I've Listened

Die Toten Hosen is the best German Punk band without question. They are also hardcore Fortuna Düsseldorf Fans, who at one point financed the transfer a player for the club. They have a great song about the bad guys in German football, F.C. Bayern Munchen. I had the time on my daily subway commute to translate this great song: There are not many things in this world, To hold on to, Some say its love, maybe they've got a point, There is always god, when there's no one else left, Some believe in nothing, life's hardened them up, So many things can happen, So many things, There is only one thing I am sure of, I would never play for Bayern! If I were 20 yeras old, and super talented, And Real Madrid had knocked on my door, Along with Man United, I had already played for Germany, And mentally top fit, If Uli Hoeness -Bayern Manager- would stand on my door, I wouldn't open my door, Cause its out of the question for me, To play for a club like Bayern, Their character is spoiled...

What is punk rock?

This is punk rock: And this is what it means: "I'll tell you about punk rock: punk rock is a word used by dillitante's and ah... and ah... heartless manipulators about music that takes up the energies and the bodies and the hearts and the souls and the time and the minds of young men who give what they have to it and give everything they have to it and it's a... it's a term that's based on contempt, it's a term that's based on fashion, style, elitism, satanism and everything that's rotten about rock'n'roll. I don't know Johnny Rotten but I'm sure... I'm sure he puts as much blood and sweat into what he does as Sigmund Freud did. You see, what sounds to you like a big load of trashy old noise is in fact the brilliant music of a genius, myself . And that music is so powerful that it's quite beyond my control and ah... when I'm in the grips of it I don't feel pleasure and I don't feel pain, either physically or emoti...

Guns of Exarchia (*)

The people of the cradle of democracy are giving another great example of courage and humanity, by standing against the tyranny of the coercive force monopoly in modern society, which we call the "Police." No sir, you cannot get away with killing a young boy at will... When they kick out your front door How you gonna come? With your hands on your head Or on the trigger of your gun When the law break in How you gonna go? Shot down on the pavement Or waiting in death row You can crush us You can bruise us But you'll have to answer to Oh, Guns of Brixton (*) Athens district around the Politechnical University where the protests got started

What Rock is All About

I wanna head on collision with my love.

These monkeys gone to heaven

Little bit of Pixies: pixies-monkey_gone_to_heaven Hochgeladen von labeteimmonde The songs about the monkeys who managed to strangle Neptune in mud, and get Zeus sucked out of the atmosphere, but damned to get burned through the hole in the sky, and still managed to go to heavens. If Man's five, then Devil's six. And if Devil's six, then God is seven, God is seven!

How you gonna come, when they kick out your front door?

I suggest Clash on Broadway to everyone. It is a 3 disk collection, filled with all the best songs of The Clash, worth buying. Up to now I was attracted to punk for its * Simplicity - Especially Ramones * Wit - Ramones and Sex Pistol * naiveness - Undertones * Raw Power - Stooges * I-don't-give-a-fuck-attitude - Sex Pistols but not its political tone. Clash has showed me punk can be great while being dead serious about politics, and being more complex than riffs and beats. The Carribean beats spilling out of the bass line is living proof how immigration made London a great town... The song that is an example of this Jamaican flair is The Guns of Brixton that also has very sharp lyrics: "When they kick out your front door How you gonna come? With your hands on your head Or on the trigger of your gun When the law break in How you gonna go? Shot down on the pavement Or waiting in death row" I will post not the original Clash version, because I really want people to buy this ...

Feeling Naive Today

Even though they have a hard image, associated with -perhaps self-imposed- homelessness, punk for me represents musical purity, amateur idealism, and naiveness. Especially the music of Ramones. Sometimes I wish the relation between men and women were as naive as their song "Girl I wanna Be Your Boyfriend": " Hey, little girl I wanna be your boyfriend Sweet little girl I wanna be your boyfriend Do you love me babe? What do you say? Do you love me babe? What can I say? Because I wanna be your boyfriend "

Obituary for Punk

The weathers been unbelievably sunny in Berlin recently. I know a real nice song that suits my mood these days. It's from the good old Punk days, which I missed with a few years, Here Comes the Summer by The Undertones: To my sister: I hope you know now, who influenced Jarvis Cocker's weird mimics on stage Thinking about the glorious days of Punk, the most disgusting music video I've seen lately came to my mind. It is a proof that the popular culture has chewed, swallowed, and digested Punk. And I think what Avril Lavigne -former prom queen from middleofnowehereville, manitoba, canada- did in her last video is the end product of this digestive process, commonly referred as shit. It is about a handsome guy who is dating a dull geek girl, who wears glasses and long skirts, and a punk-rocker girl who dresses in black, but is not afraid to show her curves with sexy mini skirts and do hip-hop style dance moves when it is necessary, who wants to steal the guy from the evil ge...

Training Day 11

Best training so far. I did 40 minutes on the cross trainer (it's sad that Cross Trainer is almost never free when I go), worked out my abs, shoulders, chest. I had more energy so I added my back to the exercise. Definitely it's gotta do with my excitement for the Skiing trip in 4 days. I will ski from the minute when the pistes open till sun goes down. I listened to Ramones almost exclusively. My favorite, Teenage Lobotomy. Somehow fits me perfectly: Slugs and snails are after me DDT keeps me happy Now I guess I'll have to tell 'em That I got no cerebellum. Gonna get my ph.d. I'm a teenage lobotomy.

Teenage dreams, so hard to beat

For those who are not familiar with him, John Peel was a legendary British radio broadcaster, who with his Peel Sessions which he ran unstopped between 1967 until his death 2004, helped so many bands from all sorts of genres. I I came across Peel Sessions site on BBC Radio 1, which reminded me his favorite song Teenage Kicks by the Undertones. It is the only song that he played two times in a row in a show. On a time when most of us asking serious questions about the meaning of dreams and the realities in life, it is a good song to sing to... "I can't listen to it now without getting all dewy-eyed. And if I play it on the radio, I have to segue it into the front of another record because I can't speak after I've heard it." John Peel on Teenage Kicks
