Let me wish Mr. Ford, THE sci-fi/fantasy actor of our age a quick recovery, and celebrate him with one of the most memorable scenes in Cinema I have ever watched from Blade Runner. The android, whom Ford had been chasing throughout the movie saves his life, and faces his certain death with these words that could be coming from a existentialist treatise or a Dylan song: I've… seen things you people wouldn't believe… Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those… moments… will be lost in time, like [small cough] tears… in… rain. Time… to die…

Great books inspire great movies such as Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now. It is also sometimes the case that great songs inspire great movies, such as the case of Dead Flag Blues and 28 Days Later: " the government is corrupt and we're on so many drugs with the radio on and the curtains drawn we're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine and the machine is bleeding to death" Sounds very contemporary, doesn't it? I am reading a thrilling futurology of a book written in 1924. Still untranslated into English, Berge Meere und Giganten retells the history of the world from 1900s to 3000s. Genetically modified organisms, technologies crashing traditional industries, global warming, internet... It's all there. I am still amazed that this gem hasn't been made into to a movie. But considering the dismal state of cinema these days, maybe this is a good thing.

I love the fact that one of the channels is History Channel with Pawn Stars on it. Bob Dylan has this great radio show called Theme Time Radio Hour. Every week he chooses a theme,such as Coffee, Devil, Trains, and plays a wide collection of songs about the theme. Interested can download almost all the episodes from the following website ( link to the website ). I was listening to the Weather episode the other day. He played De Niro's famous "Someday a real rain will come and wash away this scum" sample from Taxi Driver. Apparently Dylan likes this movie. So I googled De Niro and Dylan, and here is what I found: Brad Elderman ( link to his website ) took this photo in 1976 in a New York City backstage, where Dylan called the young and new actor to meet him in person. I had written previously about " When We Were Kings ," the Academy Award winning documentary about the fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Zaire. I watched it again last week, and I just have to recommend it again to everyone. It is definitely the best documentary I've watched. In addition to getting to know Muhammad Ali, you will also hear the shortest poem in English Language. --SPOILER WARNING-- Muhammad Ali goes to Harvard graduation. He talks at the graduation, and the students shout to him for a poem. He recites poems in his interviews. He then improvises the shortest, but yet powerful poem I've ever heard. " Me, We. Muhammad Ali" He's a great man. --SPOILER WARNING--

I have to say I may have watched the movie with a little bit bias. Intro scene with the original "Times Are A'Changing"? Acoustic, and without cutting it? I am sure all the the movie had a head start with all the Dylan fans. The movie is worth watching even just for the soundtrack. The list speaks for itself: Simon and Garfunkel, Philip Glass, and Leonard Cohen, Jimi Hendrix, and a Bob Dylan (an original and a cover). The story is from the cult comic series Watchmen, by Alan Moore, who also wrote V for Vendetta. The director is Zack Snyder, who is the director of 300, which I loved. His style matches even more to the alternative history setting of 1980s. The tone and the depth of the issues it discusses was very satisfying. I've watched the theatrical version, but loved it so much, that I wanna watch the director's cut as well. !!!SPOILER ALERT!!! I recently watched When We Were Kings on DVD. It is an Oscar-Wining documentary about the tight fight between George Foreman, who was 22 and top of his time, and Muhammad Ali, who was 32, promoted by Ron King as Rumble In The Jungle. The fight took place in Congo, where the the Dictator Mobutu agreed to pay the 10 million dollars to raise the image of his country. The fight was supported with an All-Star troupe of African American entertainers, including BB King and James Brown. I definitely recommend the movie and it's soundtrack to get to learn this inspiring figure. Muhammed Ali is an amazing personality. In addition to being one of the greatest professionals of the history, he was at the same time an entertainer, a man of principles, a social transformer, and a poet in his own right.
