Today Leonard Cohen celebrates his 80. birthday. I have to thank my sister for introducing him to me and the man himself for making me an adult. I can remember clearly that rainy September evening in my Berlin apartment where I was aimlessly playing God of War on Playstation and listening to "The Songs of Love and Hate" on the side. It is a violent attack on the vanity of a young man (or a woman). There I was, wasting my time on a silly game, and the life outside was flowing continuously, not caring about me. I had to do something. After a trip to Amsterdam, I took the decision to give a thrust to my PhD. Runkeeper is one of the most useful Iphone apps I've ever used. Load this, and your Iphone becomes a GPS-based activity (running, hiking, skiing) tracker. It measures your speed, distance, altitude. It gives you audio cues, and you can also load running routines on it. Then you can see your results on a nice webpage with graphs and google maps. It is definitely worth the price.

This summer was a express ride for me. Even though I planned for working on my thesis, I ended up flying almost every 2 weeks. At the gates, in the planes, on the bus rides, train rides I was laughing all the time. If not I had a smile all the time. It was thanks to The Fab Four of the Seinfeld Crew. 2 Years ago I changed my diet. It is not a Diet that I am doing. I changed my eating habits. I am trying to reduce carbs as much as possible, get fat from nuts and olive oil, get my proteins from legumes, white meat and fish. This combination is the best tasting midday sandwich I came up with: Ricotta: 160 kcal/100 g. Lots of whey proteins, low fat. Pumpernickel: 180 kcal/ 100g. Whole grain rye bread. Combine 125 grams Ricotta with 250g Pumpernickel. Low calorie, Low fat, good carb, high in fibers. And delicious!
