Obituary for Punk

The weathers been unbelievably sunny in Berlin recently. I know a real nice song that suits my mood these days. It's from the good old Punk days, which I missed with a few years, Here Comes the Summer by The Undertones:

Thinking about the glorious days of Punk, the most disgusting music video I've seen lately came to my mind. It is a proof that the popular culture has chewed, swallowed, and digested Punk. And I think what Avril Lavigne -former prom queen from middleofnowehereville, manitoba, canada- did in her last video is the end product of this digestive process, commonly referred as shit. It is about a handsome guy who is dating a dull geek girl, who wears glasses and long skirts, and a punk-rocker girl who dresses in black, but is not afraid to show her curves with sexy mini skirts and do hip-hop style dance moves when it is necessary, who wants to steal the guy from the evil geek girl. Don't get me wrong, I love hip-hop style dance moves. But only when curvalicious girls do them properly, and when they are not in -alleged- rock video. The skulls that are associated with rock were softened with pink colors to suit the taste of a decent daughter of midwestern suburbia. And yes, the multi-talented Avril Lavigne plays all of the main characters in the video. I can't wait her first 80-minute-dumb-teenage-romantic-comedy-with-a-rock-flavor.



When this is what has become of Punk, I guess I am not mistaken to declare punk officially dead...

Joy of rediscovering a Bob Dylan discovery

I guess I won't be wrong if I say that Bob Dylan's artistic output is perhaps one of the largest in the contemporary music history. Thus one shouldn't be surprised to find interesting Dylan selections such as "Favorite Dylan Songs Starting with C" in the Internet. His website ( link to the website ), which has an incredible list of his songs, might give you an idea of about the sheer volume of his output. So from time to time I discover new favorites out of this collection.
