Microsoft Playing the Evil Again

"Times are a'changing" as Dylan put it some 30 years ago. These days "Times" are on an "Eco" track. Carbon emissions, reducing them, neutralizing them, how to be carbon free, how to trade carbon, global warming, its existence, its non-existence, Kyoto Protocol are all familiar to everyone.

So "being Eco" being the trend, Windows and Google have shown their differences on this field again...

This article on Reuters describes the incredible step that Google is taking, by converting to solar and relying on solar power for 1/3s of its power consumption in its headquarters! They being the trend setters, if this move catches on with the burgeoning Eco-conscious movement in USA and World, it can, with the recent move by Virgin Airlines founder Richard Branson to tackle airlines contribution to global warming, open up the gates for corporate environmentalists.

Windows on the other side is about to roll out its new Operating Sysytem, the Vista, which will consume huge amounts of power, if you want to use the useless graphical tricks and a decent look according to this wired news article. Everybody is talking about car emissions, but I wonder how much your PC contributes to your carbon foot-print.

If the prices go up like they are doing so, I am willing to have a efficient screen and modem at my house, and let all the (or most of) the computing to be done in Google servers, when a network OS is a reality...

Two different ways to go, and this time I guess I know the winner...
