Besiktas - Ankaragucu and Arsenal - Man. Utd (22 Jan 07)

One thing goes without saying. Being a Besiktas fan means that you will feel the excitement of football to the last minute of every game. It is unfortunately not because Besiktas is playing great attacking football, but simply because we can concede a goal from any team were playing against anytime.

We played Ankaragucu (Power of Ankara to those interested in Turkish) in the last game of Turkish Cup Group stage. 3 teams could reach the 2 qualifying positions, us, Ankaragucu and Genclerbirligi (Another Ankara team, translated Youth Union). We had to win, or draw and wait Genclerbirligi to loose.

We started the game pretty well, our Brazilian-Turkish Striker Nobre missed many chances, and our Brazilian Striker Bobo was simply not on his day. It was nice to see our two football magicians, Ricardinho and Matias Delgado on the pitch, performing their usual tricks. Another good thing on the pitch was to see our 33 year old left winger Ibrahim Uzulmez learned how to cross after 8 years on the left wing. He has made such a jump in his performance this year.

Our defense sucks. I mean it was the first time in my life, that I saw 4 defensive players leaving their man and running AWAY from the goal in a corner situation (were they thinking of an offside trap?!?). This lead to Ankaragucu's goal and the game was turning into in old but familiar scenario of home defeat. Then the most successful player of the game , Ankaragucu's keeper made a stupid mistake and gifted us a penalty. There is no question if it was apenalty or not. I hate players like him who oppose the referee after such obvious fouls.

Then the game went on a 12 minute break after one of the light towers of the stadium went off. Rumor was that our people did it on purpose, I don't know if this is true. But it certainly helped, Delgado cracked in a goal from the right side of the penalty area 2 minutes after the game re-started. The pass came from one of our young hopes Burak, to whom I lost all my hope. You expect a 22 year old guy to run and fight, not wander round the field like he does...

In the end, we won, qualified for the quarter finals of the Cup, league will start in a week and my weekends have meaning once more. It was great to see the jersey I love on the field, but one thing was missing. The game was played without any supporters, as we were banned for one game. It was like watching a love movie, with one of the lovers missing. I am looking forward to next week when the lover meets his love...

In England my team Arsenal won 2-1 against Manchester United. They are now 5 points behind Chelsea and 12 behind Manchester United. Not a bad position after a miserable start. This makes me wanna sing one of my favorite chants:

Who da f.ck are Man United,
Who da f.ck are Man United,
And the Gunners go marching on!

Olucak abi, şu anda güvenim var Beşiktaş'a.

İbrahim Üzülmez'in alnından en kısa zamanda öpücam nazar değmesin.
